La juventud extutelada: emanciparse con 18 años sin una red de apoyo sólida
“¡Tener una mentora me ha cambiado la vida! Ahora tengo las ideas más claras de qué quiero hacer y de qué no”, afirma Ahmed, mentorizado del proyecto.
Los proyectos de mentoría ofrecen un acompañamiento personalizado a los jóvenes tutelados y extutelados para favorecer su integración social, promover la igualdad de oportunidades y mejorar su calidad de vida. La iniciativa la llevamos a cabo en el área metropolitana de Barcelona, Vallès Occidental y Maresme.
Cada año, 900 jóvenes dejan de ser tutelados por el estado y comienzan su transición a la edad adulta sin una red de apoyo sólida. Desde Punt de Referència promovemos programas para responder a las dificultades que sufre este colectivo, que se encuentra en riesgo de exclusión social al no disponer de una red familiar en el territorio, especialmente cuando salen del sistema de protección en el momento de cumplir dieciocho años. Para dar solución a esta problemática, desde la entidad ofrecemos a los jóvenes la posibilidad de conocer a una persona que le aporte apoyo emocional, lúdico y lingüístico.
La figura del mentor o mentora es clave, sobre todo porque les ofrece un apoyo emocional imprescindible y una apertura a nuevas oportunidades en el territorio en el que viven. Este apoyo hace que la juventud que forma parte del programa mejore sus competencias relacionales, como su nivel de conversación y su capacidad para expresar los sentimientos. Además, el acompañamiento ayuda a generar un sentimiento de pertenencia, esperanza de futuro y ganar estabilidad emocional, muy importante a la hora de enfocar los estudios y la búsqueda de empleo.
En relación a los estudios, los miembros del programa muestran una gran mejora gracias al acompañamiento, un 65% de los jóvenes valora los programas de mentoría como un empuje para emanciparse. Por ejemplo, del Issiaga, declara lo siguiente:
“Abans estudiava, però, ara estic treballant. Quan pugui, el meu objectiu és treure’m un Cicle de Grau Superior. La Leticia, la meva mentora, m’anima a continuar treballant i a estudiar”.
També s’hi mostra molt satisfet l’Ahmed, que destaca la figura de la seva mentora: “Antes estudiaba ahora estoy trabajando. Cuando pueda, mi objetivo es sacarme un Ciclo de Grado Superior. Leticia, mi mentora, me anima a seguir trabajando ya estudiar”.
Por otro lado, el proyecto también planea abordar el problema de la vivienda. Actualmente, en Barcelona hay cerca de un millar de personas sin techo, un centenar de ellas jóvenes de entre dieciocho y veinticinco años. Esta problemática afecta especialmente a los jóvenes extutelados, ya que un 30% de los jóvenes sin techo provienen del sistema de protección. Desde Referentes trabajamos para revertir esta situación, asesorando a los miembros del programa en este ámbito para que puedan contar con más oportunidades y un mejor futuro.
