El model de mentoria del projecte Referents: com ajuda als joves migrants no acompanyats?

El passat mes de març em vaig doctorar a la Universitat de Girona sota la supervisió del doctor Òscar Prieto-Flores. La meva tesi s’ha centrat en avaluar els efectes positius que té la mentoria social en jovent d’origen estranger, majoritàriament en menors no acompanyats que van estar sota la tutela de la DGAIA i que, en arribar als 18 anys, van accedir a pisos assistits de l’Àrea de Suport als Joves Tutelats i Extutelats.

Els joves immigrants no acompanyats que van participar formaven part del projecte Referents de l’Associació Punt de Referència. En primer lloc, l’estudi es va centrar en identificar en quins aspectes tenia efecte el projecte de mentoria. En segon lloc, en determinar quines són les tipologies de suport social que els mentors proveeixen als joves. I, en tercer lloc, es va identificar com aquest suport pot suposar un complement significatiu en la xarxa de suport dels joves. Tots aquests elements tenen una implicació directa en la seva transició cap a l’edat adulta i en la seva inclusió social com a col·lectiu migrant.

 

Augment del benestar psicològic: autoestima, resiliència i esperança

A través de realitzar qüestionaris amb més de quaranta joves (una part participaven en el projecte de mentoria i l’altra part no) vam poder destacar que els mentorats milloren significativament l’autoestima, la resiliència i l’esperança. Les entrevistes que vam fer amb deu joves immigrants i els seus mentors ens van servir per a poder comprendre perquè es donen aquestes millores en vers als joves que no participaven en la mentoria.
Els mentors suposen una font de suport emocional i de consells. Les mostres d’escolta activa i la capacitat que tenen per empatitzar amb les situacions dels mentorats són la clau per fomentar una visió positiva dels joves cap a ells mateixos. El fàcil accés que promouen molts dels mentors, també facilita que els mentorats se sentin oberts a rebre consells. Les mostres de preocupació a través de consells i els missatges d’esperança ajuden al fet que els i les joves se sentin més pacients amb tots els obstacles que es van trobant, fomentant una visió més favorable sobre els seus futurs. Tot això, ho expliquen amb les seves paraules els mentorats:

“Si tengo problemas, en cualquier momento puedo llamarla (a la mentora) y explicarle mi problema y si ella puede, me ayuda. […] Me sirve, porque por el tema de mis papeles, le expliqué y me dio consejos, me dice que siga estudiando, que ojalá un día tenga la residencia…”        Mentorat/da

“Tu puedes tener un problema y esta persona te puede ayudar a arreglar los problemas que tienes y como yo no soy de aquí, las personas que son de aquí saben mucho más […] y me pueden hablar de cosas que en el futuro me pueden ayudar.”       Mentorat/da

 

Millora dels futurs educatius: Aspiracions i expectatives educatives

A més a més, els mentors suposen una millora en les possibilitats que els seus mentorats coneguin recursos del seu entorn. Això, té efectes en què els joves tinguin més oportunitats de trobar serveis o persones que els ajudin a continuar amb el seu desenvolupament i en la transició cap a l’edat adulta. Aquestes noves oportunitats i l’ orientació dels mentors ajuden al fet que els joves puguin planificar les seves trajectòries amb més tranquil·litat, tenint algú que els serveix de guia per aconseguir allò que desitgen per als seus futurs. Una de les mentores i un dels joves ens serveixen d’exemple:

“Vam anar un dia a un centre d’aquests que és com un casal de joves, […] vam passar per davant i vam voler veure què tenien per a joves, ens va atendre una noia que de seguida… ‘mira, doncs aquí tens gent que et pot ajudat a fer un currículum, fem concerts, activitats, futbol i molta cosa per als joves’. I sí, el vaig portar a un lloc on realment li podien oferir la possibilitat d’ampliar el seu entorn.”     Mentor/a

“Me gusta tener relación con mucha gente. Porque una memoria es una memoria, pero tú memoria y mi memoria, si trabajamos juntos, serán dos ideas que se trabajan. […] Antes las cosas siempre estaban en mi cabeza, no hablaba con nadie… Bueno, desde que llegué a aquí, con muchos proyectos, colaborando con ellos, empecé a olvidar mis cosas, empecé a relajarme con mis cosas…. Gracias a todos los del proyecto que me ayudan.”     Mentorat/da

Formació i seguiment dels voluntaris: Well-targeted and problem specific mentoring approach

Com deixa entreveure aquest darrer testimoni d’un jove, Punt de Referència no els connecta únicament amb una persona adulta voluntària que per si mateixa, és capaç de donar-los suport. L’ entitat busca proveir als voluntaris de les eines necessàries per poder duu a terme aquest acompanyament educatiu. Tenen la capacitat de fer-ho perquè coneixen al col·lectiu de primera mà, porten molts anys donant-los suport a través de diferents projectes que desenvolupa i donen molta rellevància a formar i monitorar als mentors. La literatura acadèmica en mentoria anomena a aquest tipus d’enfocament com “well-targeted and problem specific” (ben dirigit i centrat en problemes específics). Altres estudis han demostrat que aquests projectes de mentoria solen tenir majors efectes en termes acadèmics, psicològics i socials. Resumir tota aquesta estructura de formació i seguiment és difícil, però es pot sintetitzar l’efecte positiu que té en la tasca dels mentors amb les paraules de les següents mentores:

“Ens van ficar en context, pel que fa al marc legal actual de tots els joves que arriben, si han demanat asil polític o tema de menors no acompanyats. […] Després, jo a la Cristina (tècnica del projecte) sempre la he tingut molt present. Vull dir, que qualsevol cosa li anava explicant i ella em donava feed-back.”    Mentor/a

“En el curso, al principio, nos dijeron todo lo que les podía pasar. […] Te ponen en situaciones difíciles y creo que está muy bien, porque es una manera de hacer entender que no todo es bonito. Puede ser que el chico te venga un día y te plantee algo y tú no sepas que contestarle…”         Mentor/a

 

La mentoria com a complement en una xarxa de suport existent

També, és important destacar que aquests joves tenen més referents adults, a banda dels mentors. La Federació Espanyola de Projectes i Pisos Assistits (FEPA) i les entitats que la integren, són un gran suport en l’emancipació d’aquest jovent. Per una banda, com he mencionat, hi ha les entitats i, per tant, els educadors que els recolzen en els pisos assistits. Per altra, els familiars al país d’origen, els quals segueixen en contacte amb els joves a través de les xarxes socials i missatgeria instantània.
Els educadors solen estar enfocats en molts àmbits de la vida dels nois i noies, això implica ajudar a desenvolupar les seves habilitats per a l’emancipació, acompanyar-los en la recerca de cursos formatius, donar-los suport en la seva gestió documental i administrativa, etc. Els familiars, en canvi, són una valuosa font de suport emocional, però a vegades, els joves no volen compartir els seus malestars amb ells per tal de no preocupar-los. Per tant, molts d’ells necessiten altres referents adults que els ajudin a afrontar les dificultats del dia a dia, tenint un espai de reflexió on poder parlar de problemes personals, preocupacions i reptes per al futur. És exactament en aquest espai on un mentor pot ajudar, establint-se com un clar complement en el suport que poden rebre de les institucions i de la família en la distància.
